also I believe in the past, the fee was $500.00 if the city mowed the lawn. As bad as the city needs money, it won't be free this time either. I have one of those lazy people down the street from me. I called the realestate company and said ' I"m curious about how bad do you want to sell this house?' He never mows the lawn and who wants to buy a neglected house on the outside, imagie what the inside looks like" He always let the man next door's son mow the front and the back was waist high. We are working on hime too. I saw him out with a weed wacker on Friday. How do you just live in a house and do nothing to it, SMH

Last I heard, the building dept was working on an ordinance to makes mortgage companies and banks who own these properties responsible for maintance and making these homes safe and secure or issue tickets and fines. I'll check on that soon as they open on Monday to see where they are with this.

Roberto, It is not just about my wanting the lawn mowed. When I last check there are ordinances and just simply taking pride in where you live. Yes what happened to the idea of "community" I am doing my part to remind people that yes you do live in a community and yes if you don't mow your lawn and maintain your property it affects us all. You live in a community do your part. If you cant or don't want to do yard work get condo or apartment.
The neighbour has been mowing half of the front lawn. It is not my responsibility. And Robert Cry me a river sometimes you simply have to solve your own problems.
Mona, is there a way to get the city of Pontiac to have a fine of at least $300 for these lawns. If it is a rental, foreclosure or whatever some one owns the property issue a fine use the money collected to plant trees and flowers along the roads like woodward ave or I 59. If there are consequences people will care.

Why not go over and offer your assistance if you want it fixed? Maybe there are some dire circumstances that you can assist them in? Whatever happened to the idea of "community"?

Please see message below. Your property taxes do not go to the Road Commission. We are funded primarily through the state-collected gas tax and vehicle registration fees. Those revenues have been going down for years, while the cost of maintaining road has been skyrocketing. Additionally, it is a long-standing policy of the Road Commission that, due to insufficient funding, we do not resurface subdivision streets unless the residents of the street are willing to pay for the project through a special assessment district (SAD). If you are interested in learning about the SAD process, please call the Road Commission at 877-858-4804. Thank you.

It's a mystery to me that this has been left for so long.. My husband called the Road Commission about this and was asked if he thought the residents would be willing to pay for the resurfacing. Where are our taxes going if not to those roads that are in bad shape?

If you are asking the readers of this forum to drive over and "clean up the property" don't hold your breath. If there is a house on the property, I am assuming no one lives there. Take a leadership role and take your lawn mower over there and cut the grass. As you are able cut down shrubs and junk trees. Ask the neighbor on the other side or in back of the property to help. It takes a village to accomplish any mutual task. You could try to find out who owns it and send them a bill but I have a feeling it has been abandoned and the city has taken back the property.

Hello, I have spoken to the secretaries at the school about this issue and they stated that the sheriffs and the county are well aware of the problem but offer no solutions. I was told we are not considered a "walking " school so they won't put up a school speed zone to slow drivers down. Cars speed down Joslyn well over the 45 mph speed zone The county won't give us a protected light because we are too close to an intersection. It is so dangerous because you have blind spots when exiting when the cars are backed up from the light at Joslyn & Clarkston. Something has to be done, it is a school not a retail space can't we be given the same consideration? Will it take death or serious injury to a parent or God forbid our children for action to resolve this issue? Safety should be a priority at a public school. I am not done exploring all of our options!

Agree! I am a parent at this school for six years now! I was rear-ended (thankful it was gentle) trying to avoid getting t-boned. Because I didn't report the minor bumper dent in a 11 year old van the sheriff has no record.
