The traffic calming process is still going on, however the problem with lights is different. We are in the General Services District, the bad news is that in this area we don't get some of the services provided in the Urban Services District (like street lights or trash pick up for example)

I have to agree with you. It is coming into summer and my daughter goes to school and church across the street. We also live on that corner.

M. Fisher, Panhandlers gather where the money is. If our area was not so generous, they would not remain there. They are less likely to go to some other areas because the people will not give to them. We need better public education in our area to discourage people from giving money to panhandlers/solicitors. We should encourage our neighbors to give to organizations that commit to helping this individuals. Please do not assume that nothing has been done. I have worked with our Police Department, business owners as well as several nonprofit groups that do outreach to the homeless to offer them treatment and help find them homes. The community has also worked together to clean out areas where they would set up camp, put up no trespassing signs on real estate/businesses, offer them jobs and contact the police department when they are violating the law. Several have been arrested, put in rehab, started working at some of the businesses, took the home offer and some moved on to other areas. Panhandling is an issue throughout many communities and is not limited to our area. There are panhandlers and people soliciting around communities/businesses in every area of this City as well as surrounding counties. Many people in the community would like to erradicate this practice. It there was an easy solution, we wouldn't have the problem. Yes, we have panhandling laws. In many cases, enforcement of the law only offers temporary relief. Solicitation has been recognized by the courts as a protected form of free speech. I recommend that you continue to contact the police department and encourage neighbors not to patronize them. The Police Dept is very responsive and usually have a patrol officer in the area. They will come out and help mediate the situation. -CM Dowell

NO IT HAS NOT < until it is fixed I will shop in another part of town, I do not feal safe as long as they are here panhandling , after all that is agenst the law. & still nothing is done, what kind of city is this ? Do the police want to fix this or not , + do ya want them around all the chirldren that live around here it just dose not seem safe.
