Description
There are 2 stop signs forcing people on bicycles, on a bike trail, to stop where a GPD parking lot is connected. It's incredibly clear that cars from the GPD parking lots should have to stop for the bike lane, not vice versa. Though I'm hardly surprised by this move. Please fix the stop signs.

Other nearby issues along the bike trail have been resolved but these unnecessary stop signs remain. Please have them removed. All the bikes utilizing the bike path should not have to stop for a few cars that cross the bike path each day to park adjacent to the new Police Physical Training Facility. Perhaps part of the physical training done at the facility could include a short walk from the very large and never full parking lots on either side of NW 6th Street rather than parking directly in front of the facility in this tiny parking lot :)
All cars, including police cars without emergency signals activated, should stop before they cross pedestrian walkways and bike paths. Gainesville Police Department officers have always been very cautious around me when I am biking, and have provided assistance to me and others when we need it while biking. I do not believe that they had these signs installed or requested them, and have never enforced the stop signs when I have rolled through them in front of officers on numerous occasions. In fact, officers have waved or smiled at me biking on the path through the signs, indicating that they are not actively trying to punish bikers on the path for ignoring the unnecessary stop signs. The signs seem unnecessary given the amount of parking lot traffic crossing the path, and could easily be changed to yield signs or just removed. Perhaps yield signs are necessary for the cars using the parking lots, but I imagine that all the users of the parking lot are very aware that they should yield to bikes and pedestrians in the path when not responding to emergencies.
Anyway, thanks for bringing up the issue of the unnecessary stop signs Mike Magarelli, and thanks to GPD for making our city safe for all people, including bikers.
